A prey to change; a pray for change
I could still see the same glitter in his eyes. He looked more elated than the last time I saw him. That same face just winked at me “How you doing bro’?” Anupendra Chattopadyay was known for his stiff upper lip. Tall, fair and well built, an Indian with a Lancashire touch. Last six years he has changed 5 jobs. “Change is mandatory bro’, u need to learn to live life! Change is habit, change is everything mate!” He knows what he is talking. He knows what he is doing. He may not be the most successful person of his batch, but he is happy. He knows he is the reason for what he is today. He is a typical prey to change. Period
I am definitely not asking you to shift your job. This whole concept of change revolves around what is known as paradigm. We are not dealing with the paradigm analysis, but there is intimate relation between the two. Change is an inherent property that some want, some do not want. Paradigm plays its part here, the concept of paradigm paralysis, when you have a thought instilled in your brain and u don’t want to clean it up (thanks to the TQM programme attended last week!). Others are those who definitely want too much change in their life. Prey. We are talking about change that is optimum. Too much of anything is bad. Who decides on how much you want to change is yourself.
…He got down the 1980’s Ashok Leyland. His plain dark shirt had a darker and lighter side now. You could see him soaked in sweat. His thick rimmed glasses were slipping down his nose. Short and stout, you could make out Mr. Desai even with a defect of -4. He just banged the door and sat down with his top buttons open.
“Why don’t they get the material on time, I still don’t understand.”
"Do we actually need this entire approval process?”
“Do we need this system at all?”
“Why is not the breaker design this way?”
The words which Mr. Desai speaks everyday at office. He wouldn’t have got any angrier. He has been working in the company for the past two decades.
“You change it Mr. Desai”, said an enthusiast beside.
“What? Who am I to do that? Why should I?”
It’s all in your hands, mates. I pray for change. Period
Change is not only for personal cause, it is there in all walks of life. Organizations need change. Governments need change. Everything needs change. The inert instincts that are potentially needed to run them are provoked by change. Even while writing these words, I shudder to say that the desire to achieve the best is gone in us. The systems and processes in the present world are being followed throughout the years, they still are followed. Everyone curses each other on the placing of the systems. Everyone wants a change. No one is ready to put forward the change. No one wants to change. The mental boundaries that exist between the people interfere with change. These walls can actually be perceived differently. Again, paradigm. If the whole thing is about a shift in the paradigm then yes, that is what I am talking about. At any point of time, there would be three kinds of people reading this. One kind are those who want a change in their life, one who don’t want to, and of course people who have been a part of it, all throughout their life.
The Danish Couple rightly said -'Boundaries exist, but only in the minds who accept them.'
